The Division of Physical Sciences and Engineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia, invites applications for Postdoctoral fellow in Mechanical Engineering at the Mechanics of Composites for ENERCOMP.
Field of study:
We seek a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a pivotal role in managing research & technology projects in this consortium.
Responsibilities :
Initiate the design, development, execution and implementation of NDT technology research projects for inspection of composites,
Investigate the feasibility of applying new scientific principles and concepts to potential NDT inventions and products
Evaluate NDT solutions from existing partners and provide recommendations about their suitability and path to applications.
Define and execute NDT research tasks, analyzing data, publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting research at scientific conferences
Assist in formulation of long-term plans for NDT development in collaboration with KAUST TTO and partners’ business units
Lead the development of an internationally recognized experimental and computational platform on NDT and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM).
Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences
May participate in development of patent applications
Coordinate inter-partners activities and research effort
The work will be developed in the context of an industrial consortium “ENERCOMP”, which is a joint consortium between KAUST and Aramco to serve the development of the energy sector.
Qualifications:
PhD in mechanical, materials, civil, aerospace or a closely related engineering discipline.
Experience as a researcher in development NDT methods for composites
Experience as a researcher in NDT topics such as: Ultrasonic, Digital Radiography, Shearography, Thermography, Microwave, THz, and X-Ray Computed Tomography
Advanced experience in Ultrasonic Phased Array technology or Terahertz is a must
Experience in NDT of composite materials for Energy, Oil & Gas and/or Hydrogen is a must
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective team leadership and communication skills
Proficiency in preparation of research project proposals, in execution of research projects, and in project budget and schedule management.
A high level of self-motivation, strong publication record and a good command of oral and written English,.
Other duties:
The Postdoctoral fellow will be actively engaged in student mentoring (directed research, Master thesis students). He/She will also be in charge of developing further the facilities of the laboratory. The candidate will also be in charge of delivering regular reports related to the associated grant.
Appointment:
One year renewable by mutual agreement. The candidate is expected to join the team as soon as a successful interview has been completed.

Field of study:
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead an experimental research program in the area of composite materials and structural integrity. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and conducting experimental investigations, analyzing and interpreting experimental data, and contributing to research outcomes and publications.
We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a strong background in experimental mechanics, composite materials, structural engineering, or a related field. Experience in mechanical testing, experimental characterization, and non-destructive testing would be advantageous.
The candidate will work within a multidisciplinary research team and have access to well-established laboratory facilities and experimental equipment.
Responsibilities:
• Plan and conduct experimental investigations on composite materials and bonded structures.
• Prepare specimens and carry out mechanical and experimental characterization.
• Apply appropriate non-destructive testing and monitoring techniques.
• Analyze and interpret experimental data and contribute to high-quality research publications.
• Contribute to project reporting, presentations, and collaboration with research partners.

Qualifications:
• PhD in mechanical, materials, civil, aerospace or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Hands-on experience in experimental mechanics of polymers, composites or adhesive joints, specimen preparation, servo-hydraulic or electrodynamic testing, and fatigue testing.
• Working knowledge of fracture mechanics and/or damage mechanics.
• Evidence of publication in peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with career stage.
• Ability to plan and sustain a long, disciplined test campaign independently, and to keep rigorous records.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
